2021.10.25 20:18 Fudge-Sensitive I'm sick of Reddit telling people to "learn to code".

When someone mentions they are lost in life and don't have a career path, Reddit always likes to respond: "learn to code". They even advise this to older people in their 30s and above.
And it's horrible.
I'm not a programmer myself, but I work with them on a regular basis. Acoording to them, there is a massive discrepancy between the type of advice given on Reddit vs the reality of the job market. And it's only getting worse.
People on Reddit like to claim that it's easy to land a job as a programmer if you work hard enough. And while this could be true for a tiny minority, the same could be said of the advice "become a trial attorney".
The job market is overflowing with entry-level, self-taught individuals who follow Reddit's type of advice, and it eventually works against them when they try to find a job. Becuse most are doing it out of desperation and were sold a dream.
These people buy a bootcamp course, spend a year to learn the syntax and build a few basic tutorial projects, then think they are ready to seek out an entry-level job.
And then reality hits them.
They realize they are competing with an ocean of CS grads from reputable schools. And most of these grads are incredibly smart, focused and actually consider programming an art.
While the bootcamp applicant thinks knowing the syntax is enough, the CS grad considers this an elementary aspect.
It's like thinking that knowing your ABCs makes you ready to apply for a journalism job.
What Reddit should say is "it is easy for senior developers to find work".
It's a detriment and diservice to paint a false picture to desperate people, especially since it sends them down a path which, more than likely, will waste precious time and energy they could channel towards more realistic pursuits.
And for the record, i'm not saying to discourage everyone, but at the very least be honest.

2021.10.25 20:18 Borchert97 I feel like Studio Pierrot is rushing the new arc already.

I want to preface this entire post by saying I absolutely loved the new episode and I'm just in general really hyped for the new Chunin Exam arc, I think Studio Pierrot's Chunin Exam filler arc in Shippuden is one of the best filler arcs of the franchise (Rock Lee vs. Shira anyone?), but this arc is giving me the vibes like it's going to be extremely rushed. I don't think they should've blitzed through two rounds of the Chunin Exams right away, if I could've designed this arc, this is how I would've done it.

Written Test/Round 1: I would've made this episode 221 in its entirely, dedicate a whole episode to the written test, go more in-depth on the kind of questions that are presented to the Genin, go more in-depth with how teams can cheat, basically copy part 1 Naruto's episode for the written exam, same concept.

Forest of Death/Round 2: I would've given this one 2-3 episodes, if the exam stays the same where it's on a 45 minute timer, they can get away with giving this round two episodes as long as it's cutting back and forth between Sarada's fight with Mirai and Boruto's attempts to complete the exam, they can pass it off as if those are happening at the same time. I would've still kept the same conclusion to the exam.

1v1s/Round 3: With 5 fights, I'd try to draw them out as much as possible, and give each fight about 2 episodes, except maybe have one "joke" type of fight where it's over way too quick, like Dosu vs. Choji or Shinki vs. Chocho, those really brief one-sided fights, we could insert one of those, but give the other four fights 2 episodes, so this round would consist of about 9 episodes in total.

More 1v1s/Round 4: I would have the proctors throw the Genin ANOTHER curveball after they finish the Leaf Village 1v1s, by announcing that the 5 Genin left will be facing off with the finalist Genin from other villages, I'd have the Five Great Nations each contribute 5 Genin each for a total of 25, then bring in various skilled Genin from lesser villages, for example, the Grass and Waterfall villages could each contribute some Genin, or we can go a step further and bring in the Rain and Steam village, but however many smaller villages get included, they have to include a total of 7 additional Genin to round the number up to 32. From here we'd have a giant part 1-style bracket tournament, where it starts with 32 Genin, then down to 16, 8, 4, 2, and 1. They could show off some returning characters as well as introduce some new Genin and I'd even throw in a good training arc in between the Leaf 1v1s and the inter-village 1v1s.

Altogether, this arc could've had the potential to be 30-40 episodes but I feel like it's only going to end up being about 10-15, just from the way the first episode was paced. And with how close the anime is to the manga (it's really close for you anime-onlys, we're only behind by like 6-8 chapters), I feel like it would've been in Studio Pierrot's best interest to draw this next arc out a little. It's still going to be a kick ass arc no matter what, I'm just pointing out that I think it could be a lot better, and who knows, maybe in the end the proctors will say that the Genin now have to fight those from other villages and that will draw the arc out to about 20-25 episodes.

2021.10.25 20:18 Naive-Memory3594 I manifested my ex back

So, I’ve been a lurker on Reddit for a while, I knew at some point I would write my story but I wanted everything to fall on my lap perfectly before I wrote about it.
Backstory: I was once very in love with someone that was very in love with me..However, it turned sour real quick, we both had a lot of insecurities and after 2 years of breaking up and making up we decided to call it quits about one year ago. In that one year, I was completely devastated. I woke up with knots in my stomach, I cried everyday, all while also trying desperately to manifest my ex back. I did every technique that has ever been created..Visualizing, affirmations, scripting..you name it, I did it. During this time, I managed to sort of manifest him back, but it was very forceful..I initiated contact and it came to be, but it was a short 3 months. He was very hot and cold, in and out, and not very loving. He ended up dumping me & I had no choice but to move on with my life.
After getting dumped, I consciously just gave up..I started living my life, going out with friends, meeting new people, and ultimately learning to love myself more than I have ever loved myself before. Time went by and honestly, I just didn’t care anymore. Fast forward to a couple days ago when he came back in to my life telling me that he is still completely in love with me and that he thinks about me every day. He told me that no one has ever or will ever compare to me, that he regrets his decision to dump me and that while being with other girls he always compares them to me. He told me everything that I imagined a year ago when I was in a very low vibration. Problem is…I’m just not sure this is what I want anymore. I let him go completely.
Some things to consider: When you are hurting and manifesting from a very desperate, low place it becomes exhausting and almost obsessive, at least that’s what I felt. I really want to encourage everyone to feel any pain that you have and let it run it’s course..It’s not bad to feel pain or have disturbing thoughts, you’re human and you’re allowed to feel this way. It’s only normal..I suggest you let it all out before trying to manifest something because ultimately, it didn’t show up for me until I was in love with life and in love with myself. I cant really tell you what ‘technique’ worked the best or what affirmations I used because I truly have no idea..In my head what works is feeling good, loving your life, and being thankful for the journey. Some may not be able to understand this now because you are on a manic mission to get someone back, but when you truly let go..things start to change.
I hope this helps you even a little bit.

2021.10.25 20:17 AFlockOfSmegols Horrible experience…

I was very exited with the prospect of purchasing a car online with Carvana, they made the selection phase of the process seamless and were quick to follow-up. Then came the delivery. I ordered a 2019 Toyota Tundra after a thorough review of the vehicle and Carfax history report. The photos were accurate but they failed to mention any undercarriage items such as rust. The car was scheduled for delivery Oct. 22 which was inline with the estimate. On the 22nd the driver (private carrier) called me to inform me that he'd be a day late which was fine but he'd be unable to deliver do to a flat tire and asked me to meet him in a Walmart parking lot. Of course I obliged because who doesn't get excited at the prospect of a reasonably priced $47k 2019 Tundra Sport! Upon arrival at Walmart the truck was loaded rear facing front with the tailgate into the wind and at the top of the trailer behind another vehicle. Coming into the lot my son said "Dad you really went all out!" Unfortunately this was a case of looks good from 50 feet away. Upon closer inspection the entire underbelly and suspension of the truck was covered with rust. The connecting bolts on critical components like upper control arms and brake calipers were severely rusted it actually looked like it was parked in a foot of salt water for a few months. Next I looked up at the truck and noticed the rear window was open. I told the driver who had just driven 1100 miles from Ohio about it and he looked shocked. Mind you this vehicle was parked backwards on the truck. That's when my son said "uh dad the window isn't rolled down its completely shattered" turns out he was correct. It was then I decided to refuse delivery and call Carvana. After a 45 minute hold listening to "your estimated wait time is less than 5 minutes" I was connected to "Sean" in the main call center. I told him the story and he said it was absolutely appropriate to refuse delivery so I did. I went home with my tail between my legs feeling defeated and sad at the fact that Carvana had already debited $4000 from my checking account and I had no way of getting it back quickly. Upon returning home I was contacted by "Chris" from the customer advocate team. Chris asked me to take delivery of the vehicle even though it was opposite to the advice offered by the call center and told me "on a recorded line" the vehicle would most likely be picked up in 1-2 days. Because the driver was a private carrier I felt bad because having refused delivery as I'd of kept him from earning a living and his trailer only held 2 vehicles. So, I took delivery having the driver drop it in a field I own next to my house. As of today Oct. 25 Carvana has made no effort to reach out. I called and spoke to an advocate again and he informed me they had no driver scheduled to pick up the truck. So there it sits in my side yard without a rear window under an atmospheric river raining over 3 inches in just the past 24hours with rain and snow to come. Carvana has not offered any sort of remedy, and they've offered nothing in return for my "storing" their vehicle in my yard. As a software architect I can almost guess where they're systems are failing to accommodate a vehicle return especially one with damage and getting more damaged by the minute. Given the call center's "best estimate" they will have a driver assigned to pick it up Oct. 29th and by that time I estimate the truck will be declared a total loss due to flooding. I have no words for Carvana's utter failure in this transaction other than I think they're victims of their own success and have become what they claim not to be; just another auto dealership who puts profit over customer experience. I've shared all this information with my local dealer here in Bozeman MT "Ressler Motors" they said this is not uncommon especially with rural deliveries and offered to price match the Tundra with an identical model and 8K fewer miles. The moral of the story here is there are no unicorns to be found in this market so shop locally and unless all things fall into place according to Carvanna's carefully planned, terribly excuted workflow you stand a strong chance of having to store a lemon and have your money tied up for who knows how long. Sadly I'd have to recommend any buyer beware and if you do decide to purchase Carvana I'd recommend you only do it from a "vending machine" or from a local market so you don't cost a private carrier his or her living by refusing delivery. Sadder still is I’m sure if/when they pick up the tundra it’ll be sold within a couple days to some other sucker who’s excited to finally own a dream truck.
